“We work in the dark–we do what we can–we give what we have. Our doubt is our passion, and our passion our task. The rest is the madness of art.”
— Henry James
Beth Borum lives and works in Virginia. She received a BFA from Syracuse University. The artist’s work has been shown in Illinois and Virginia.
Borum’s current work is process-oriented and seeks to connect with an evolving exploration of material through line, form and color. Throughout the process, she breaks down and rebuilds her beliefs about painting. Painting is constantly teaching –– possibility, potential, awareness and acceptance. The work examines how an entire painting changes with one mark; the role of frustration and self-evaluation in the process and the reassertion of the intention to suspend any judgment. Over and over again, the painter returns to the present relationship with the painting—to focus on developing that, remaining flexible and open with the evolution of the work.
